Brand new... My blog, Draw Your Weapon! Check it out.
I just found out from Wes Bausmith that I won an award from the Society for News Design, for an illustration I did for the LA Times last year. It was for an Op-ed story about a persistent gang problem in the author's neighborhood. SND is an international organization that "works to recognize excellence and strengthen visual journalism as a profession." I'm very honored to be recognized by them.
In Monday's New York Times I have a small piece I did for Leanne Shapton, in the Letters section. It was a very quick turnaround, which makes things exciting. You're forced to conceptualize fast. Fun piece accompanying letters replying to a recent article about the government expanding health care in the U.S., and possibly edging private insurers out of the market.
I have some new work up on my portfolio page, including an illustration I did for Josue Evilla and Jane Simon at the Boston Globe Magazine. It's for a nice story about a woman who feels burdened by guilt for buying discounted boots at a store that was going out of business. I also posted a piece I did for the River Front Times for a story about the Final Exit Network. The organization provides counseling to terminally ill people that wish to accelerate their death in a painless and dignified way. Four members have been arrested recently, and charged with assisting a suicide.
I was recently chosen to exhibit work on Communication Arts magazine's website. The platform is called "Fresh," and displays work by illustrators and designers working for less than five years. Every week a different artist is chosen, interviewed and allowed to show several examples of their work. As many illustrators and art directors know, Communication Arts is a very respected design magazine, and it's an honor to be recognized by them. View it here.
I was just informed by a few different people about being listed on The Denver Egotist. The Egotist is a blog for design here in Denver. They list local talent for illustration, graphic design and art direction (Thank you David Schell for the recommendation). I also came across a couple different blogs that have listed me, including The Lumper, by Thinkmule. I am very pleased and honored to be included on all of them.
